Theatre & Choral Arts Teacher, 2012-2015
Over a three-year period, Ms. Vicino re-established a full theatre program from scratch. She created and developed curriculum for Drama I~Intro to Theatre, Drama II~Advanced Acting & Directing, Show Choir, Concert Choir, and Yearbook, producing and directing full-length musicals and plays, a Christmas variety show, Black History Month Talent Showcase, Spring Fine Arts Festival, as well as many smaller projects throughout the school year; truly re-envisioning the performing arts at Carroll. In the spring of 2015, under the leadership of Ms. Vicino, the entire Fine Arts Department worked together to produce the first Broadway Musical in decades. As a 4th grade homeroom teacher for six years, Michele taught Reading, Language Arts and Social Studies. In addition to her homeroom duties, she also taught two sections of 6th grade math students. The following year, Michele took on a 5th grade math class as well. In her last year with MCPS, Michele became a 5th grade homeroom teacher, looping with many of her former students, Michele enjoyed working with a new curriculum as a Math and Science teacher. Throughout her time as an elementary educator, Michele consistently used drama and music arts integration techniques in her classes. Bringing text to life, activities such as "Human Slide Show", "Hot seating", and "Character Interviews" kept students engaged, and encouraged critical thinking.
