Unpacking Shakespeare's Text
Unlocking the secret to Shakespeare's text is simple: PERFORM IT! The Bard's work was never meant to simply be read, it was meant to be experienced. In this Master Class, students will learn basic skills in text analysis, scansion, vocal and movement techniques of the classical actor to decode Shakespeare's language (verse and prose) and bring it to life. Musical Theatre: Triple Threat
This workshop is designed for novice and intermediate performers (3rd through 12th grade) who possess a desire to participate in Musical Theatre and further develop the skills necessary to perform. Students are taken through the three elements of the triple threat: Singing, Dancing, & Acting. Students participate in vocal warm-ups and skill-building, followed by learning an excerpt from the chosen production number. After vocal work, students participate in movement exercises and basic dance technique. Students are then taught choreography to the song they just learned. Throughout this process, students are given acting coaching as they bring characters to life through song and dance. At the conclusion of the workshop, students put each element together to perform the excerpt for one another, receiving critical feedback. Photos from the Fairfax Middle School Theatre Expo
